Queensland New Filmmakers Awards, part of Brisbane International Film Festival, was fun this year! With two (2) of our short films nominated for a bunch of craft awards, the ceremony itself was always going to be a great night out. Winning The QPIX Award for Best Independent Drama up to 10min for a short film A DIFFERENCE IN SHADOW, film's director/producer Michael Mier was the first one of our 'crew' to climb the stage and hold a speech. The night was promising great results. Moments later and we were onto The Atlab/Kodak Award for Most Outstanding Cinematography. In this category, two of our cinematographers were nominated for their work on our short films - Matthew Floyd for his work on A DIFFERENCE IN SHADOW and Paul Seipel for his work on THE PAIN OF THE MACHO. Presented by Leigh Christensen of KODAK, Paul Seipel was called onto the stage to receive the award! Now for all those that know Paul, they will tell you that he is not a man of many words - but to everyone's surprise, Paul covered all the bases in his speech, causing a great CHEER from a corner of the Tivoli hall, where the rest of the crew were sitting. This was a huge improvement from his short and sweet ACS speech: "Thank you very much". Soon after we came to The Scope Post Production Award for Best Sound where our sound designer Shaun Richardson was nominated for his work on A DIFFERENCE IN SHADOW. Shaun received HIGHLY COMMENDED certificate for his work. Then came the The Griffith Film School Award for BEST DIRECTOR, which went to Michael Mier for his work on A DIFFERENCE IN SHADOW. Michael accepted the award from Michael and Peter Spierig, thanking everyone on the team once again. The Bolam Legal Award for Best Producer saw Lav Bodnaruk get nominated for his work on THE PAIN OF THE MACHO, for which he received a HIGH COMMENDED certificate. |
